For the Lord's mercy toward us is as great as the height of the heavens above the earth. He has removed our sins as the east is from the west.

Wow -- what an awesome image of God's unending grace! Just think about it - if you were to travel north, once you pass the north pole -- you then begin to go south. However, if you travel east -- you will never reach the west.

By the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, God removes all our sins -- as far as the east is from the west -- everything that stretches from sunrise to sunset -- and remembers them no more!

As our new logo above depicts, Bethel Lutheran is the church (geographically) between the City and the sea: Downtown Los Angeles to the east, and Santa Monica Beach to the west. We stand at the center -- and at our center stands the cross, the symbol that breaks down all cultural, racial, and social barriers. All people, no matter which point of the compass they travel from; north, south, east or west, are welcomed together as one in Christ Jesus at Bethel Lutheran Church.

Let us come and be spiritually nourished from the source of our unity -- Word & Sacrament -- so we can be refreshed, renewed, and reminded that, in all our uniqueness, not only are we united together as one in Christ, but we are called to carry Christ's all-embracing love out into our communities in LA, as well as around the globe:

In Christ there is no East or West, in him no South or North, but one great fellowship of love throughout the whole wide earth. (LBW # 359)
