Change can be difficult. In just a few weeks, I know that my life will change forever. As one person put it, "The only one who really wants to change is a baby with a wet diaper!" Well, needless to say, that statement will take on a whole new meaning for me soon…

Sometimes, life can force us to change. At times there are circumstances beyond our control that compel us to face ourselves and re-think our way of life. I know that such changes can be painful and difficult. However, I have also learned that such experiences have provided me with new opportunities to learn, grow, and see things in a new and better way.

Other times, "change" can be easier. I have found that making small changes work better for me than making one big, drastic change. For example, this New Years, I have set some personal and professional goals -- attainable goals. Once I achieve those goals, I will feel good about myself and be encouraged to set the bar a little higher. Pretty soon, I will accomplish one major goal -- made up of several little goals I had accomplished over a relatively short period of time.

When we are trying to make changes in our lives, it is helpful to surround ourselves with people who are trying to do the same. This coming year, members of Bethel who are looking for positive change in their life will find our congregation to be a fertile ground for learning, growth, opportunity, and fulfillment.

The New Year is an appropriate time to make changes, to set some goals and to make resolutions. Why not make a "resolution" to be open to the changes that God has in store for our lives, and the life of our congregation?

Moving Ahead in Christ,

+ Pastor Dan
